In the spring of 2021, I went into a recording studio without much of a plan, sat down at a beautiful piano, and played some of my favorite songs for about two hours. Of course this experience is perfect happiness at any time, but especially after a year of lockdown the session was deeply therapeutic, as it was an opportunity to release a year’s worth of pent-up ideas.

I should mention the recording studio, Acoustic Studios in Brooklyn, NY, which is a short walk from my apartment, and one of my favorite studios in the world. Run by my friend Michael Brorby, I recorded “My Ideal”, “Fellowship”, and “Solo Vol. 1” there, as well as dozens of other memorable dates.

In the following year, I did two other similar sessions at Acoustic Studios, yielding 36 songs. The sessions were filmed beautifully by my friend Luke Marantz, and I decided to release the videos to my supporters on Patreon.

“Solo, Vol. 2” is a collection of six songs from these sessions. The mood is more melancholy than Vol. 1, perhaps a reflection of the uncertain times in which it was recorded. But it also marks some exciting developments for me as a pianist, as now several years later I feel like a completely different player, technically and conceptually.

This album is dedicated to my friends and supporters on Patreon, whose support literally saved me and my family in the most difficult days in the pandemic. Thank you all!
